The Inside Scoop on Dermal Fillers
By Rachel Samson
Our Daytona Beach patients are pretty savvy when it comes to Dermal Fillers, but if you are new to the world of injectables and considering Dermal Fillers for the first time, here’s what I want you to know from my own personal experience:
- It’s Time I Told You About Tear Trough Injections
Dr. Samson and I have 3 children, ages 3,5,8, so I’ve spent 8 solid years sleep deprived and fighting dark circles and bags under my eyes. Over the years, I’ve tried multiple eye creams, which did seem to help at first, but either they stopped working over time, or I got more tired! About a year ago, I tried tear trough injections for the first time and it’s quickly become my favorite type of filler. In less than 5 minutes, Dr. Samson can treat the tear trough area and banish those dark circles, fine lines and bags. Results can last up to 12 months. Does your concealer and makeup crease in that area, settling into those little fine lines? It will help with that too. Tear Trough Injections can give the under eye a smoother, plumper, refreshed look.
2. Extending the Life of Your Dermal Fillers
I do my best to care for my dermal fillers by 1.) wearing sunscreen 2.) keeping my hands off my face as much as possible, 3.) using a very light touch when applying skincare and makeup.
It’s hard to keep your hands off your face when you are a product junkie like me and your routine consists of 18 different applications of serums, creams, and makeup, coupled with being a serial exfoliator. To keep your fillers lasting longer, you need to treat them with care. Don’t rub and scrub; use a light, gentle touch. When my fillers are about to expire, I book an appointment with our Aesthetician, Jessica, for a peel, microdermabrasion or a deep facial. Then I’ll get the fillers a week later. Excessive rubbing and scrubbing can break down the fillers and dissolve them more quickly. When getting a facial in between, I ask Jessica to use a light touch. Also I find it helps to book your maintenance/touch up appointment a little early to keep the product lasting longer.

3. Not All Injections Are Equal
BOTOX is offered anywhere and everywhere these days; “Ladies Night: Champagne, Chocolate and BOTOX” ,“Bring Your Bestie for Bubbly & BOTOX”. Most of the time these are offered by places that are trying to get their Dermal Filler business up and running, so they run all types of promotions and discounts to entice you. Many Expert Injectors don’t do these parties; they have a loyal following of patients, are often booked out weeks in advance, and have probably been doing Dermal Fillers (Botox, Juvederm, Restylane) for several years. They do offer loyalty programs to patients, and on occasion, will have a seminar to explain procedures, there may be live demonstrations, and yes you can bring a friend, but these are more academic in nature.
“Almost any doctor can purchase and administer injectables. But doctors practicing outside their specialty can put their patients at great risk. That’s why we support ExpertInjector, a program committed to ensuring that patients are seeking properly qualified physicians to perform injectable procedures. ExpertInjectors are board-certified plastic surgeons, facial plastic surgeons, dermatologists and oculoplastic surgeons who have demonstrated extreme due diligence in regards to patient safety, reliable results and consumer education. They are properly qualified to perform injectable procedures and only administer products that are FDA-approved for aesthetic use.” – American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery
Be a Savvy Patient: go to a Board Certified Dermatologist, Facial or Plastic Surgeon to get your BOTOX. Yes, you will pay a little more for it, but it’s worth it – you are paying for the skill and expertise of the injector. Dr. Samson, an ExpertInjector, has been injecting dermal fillers for 18 years and has developed original techniques for administering BOTOX & other dermal fillers that are now used by other Plastic Surgeons around the country. We all love discounts and deals, including me, and you can join our Brilliant Distinctions loyalty program and earn points (cash) towards future injections.
